John Hazel is a professional instructor, guide, and owner of the Deschutes Angler Fly Shop in Maupin, Oregon. He is one of the pioneers of spey fishing in the Northwest and has introduced numerous anglers to two-handed rod fishing. John made this video as a follow-up to "Introduction to Spey Casting" that he did with his wife Amy. It has been reviewed as one of the best spey casting videos ever produced.
Techniques for fishing skaters, sub-surface patterns, and wet flies are all part of this instructional. John will outline his system for fly selection, demonstrate his favorite knots for tying them on, and go over leader and tippet configurations. You will also discover what water is best for fishing a particular style of fly, and how to fish a sink tip fly line if the situation calls for it.
Most importantly you will learn how to catch steelhead with spey gear in this complete 70 minute production. John will show you precisely how to properly present a variety of patterns in a number of water types. Flats, pockets, ledges, boulders, riffles and big water are all covered. And you’ll get help on understanding fish habits, reading the water, and how to methodically fish a run.
